RD Contest Activity Night – Saturday 15th August

Saturday 15th August saw seven enthusiastic members gather at the clubrooms for an evening of radio activity as part of the Remembrance Day Contest. The room was alive with signals, conversation, and the unmistakable rhythm of CW tapping away.

It was fantastic to have Sam VK3ISM and Gerry VK3ZXC join in, both keen to gain contest experience across SSB and CW. With plenty of guidance on hand, much discussion occurred around the contesting and HF operation

A highlight of the night was Chris VK3QB, who delivered a masterclass in CW operating. His demonstrations of both paddle and bug technique were a great learning opportunity for newer operators and a treat for seasoned ones alike.

Meanwhile, Phil VK3VB kept the microphone busy, alternating between lively search‑and‑pounce contacts and confident CQ calling. Activity centred on the 40‑metre and 80‑metre bands, with solid signals and friendly exchanges throughout the evening.

Backing the operators were Bruce VK3BRW, Klaus VK3IU, and Fred VK3FWR, offering their expertise, encouragement, and plenty of good humour. Their support helped make the night both productive and enjoyable.
